Limited Edition Sampler CD — Finish The Story & This Window — Only £5.00 Factory‑Pressed CD — Not a CDr • Limited Edition of 50 Available on eBay This scarce sampler CD brings together archive material from Finish The Story (FTS) and This Window , two projects rooted in the UK’s early 1980s post‑punk and cassette‑culture underground. Finish The Story formed in Evesham in 1981 and quickly became known for their intense, unpredictable live shows. Their debut performance at The Phoenix Club, supporting The Dancing Did, was reviewed in ZigZag magazine: “Finish the Story’s debut gig was better than the second coming of Jesus Christ.” Despite only a handful of gigs, FTS headlined in cities like London, Birmingham, Bristol and Exeter, and supported The Cure at Hammersmith Odeon . Their first official release appeared on Gunfire and Pianos (SITU 17), alongside Psychic TV, Jazz Butcher and All About Eve. A version of this release, Like ...

An English Eccentric – 1980/81 - Download

An English Eccentric – 1980/81: Contextualising Early Cassette Works by Peter Bright Download An English Eccentric – 1980/81 comprises a series of cassette recordings presented in their original, unedited form. These recordings were not conceived as works for public dissemination; rather, they functioned as working notes, provisional sketches and exploratory fragments. Their preservation of tape hiss, mechanical instability and environmental noise situates them within the material conditions of early domestic recording practices, offering insight into the creative processes that preceded later formal outputs. Between 1980 and 1981, Peter Bright was simultaneously involved in several experimental music projects, including T.34 , In A Glass Darkly , and Finish The Story . The recordings gathered here were produced in the interstices of these activities — often late at night or in the liminal hours surrounding rehearsals and performances. As such, they occupy a space betwe...

Fostex 8 track recorder

Fostex 1/4" reel‑to‑reel 8‑track recorders changed home recording by bringing musicians much closer to a genuine studio experience. With eight independent tracks, artists could record drums, bass, guitars, vocals, and additional layers separately, then shape the mix with far more control than earlier 2‑ or 4‑track setups allowed. This opened the door to real experimentation at home—overdubbing, rearranging sections, refining performances, and building songs piece by piece instead of relying on single‑take captures. Recording and mixing were done through a conventional mixing desk, with the final stereo master mixed to cassette or a 1/4" 2‑track reel‑to‑reel machine. For many independent artists, this affordable recording technology was the first time their music felt “properly recorded” rather than simply documented. A Game Changer These machines also raised expectations for sound quality in self‑released music. Analog tape has a distinctive character t...
