Review: “This Is War” – This Window

This Is War distils the tension between love and hate into a stark, two‑minute confrontation. Relationships fracture when dreams diverge, and the song captures that moment when compromise becomes impossible. It’s emotional conflict rendered with the brevity of a warning shot.

Written and recorded at Morgue Studio (Devon) between 2025–2026, the album embraces analogue grit, minimal synth pulses, and darkwave austerity. Its lo‑fi textures—hiss, hum, and brittle drum machines—are intentional, amplifying themes of disillusionment, unstable reality, and psychological “war.”

Across the album, This Window uses fragmented, diary‑like lyrics to explore spiritual unease, power dynamics, and emotional fatigue. Tracks such as “Lay Back,” “Blue Eyes,” and “Where Is My Jesus?” deepen the sense of confrontation and resignation.

In the video for “This Is War,” shifting expressions—sunglasses, accusation, a fleeting smile—mirror the song’s duality: defence and exposure, affection and antagonism.

The death of romance "Dance this Way" is a short, searing piece of emotional reportage. In just a handful of lines, it captures the humiliation of being treated as an accessory rather than a partner. The narrator’s repeated “I hate you, I really hate you” is not melodrama but the blunt edge of betrayal — the kind that happens not in grand betrayals, but in the small, public moments where someone you love makes you feel invisible. The scene is painfully familiar: a couple arrives together at a favourite bar to see a favourite band — a shared ritual.
