Release Date 2027

“The Dark Ages” began life as nothing more than a test track—an excuse to fire up the studio’s evolving synth setup and see how the new modular configuration behaved under pressure. What started as a technical experiment quickly grew into something far more evocative, with the patching centred around two modular Eurorack banks loaded with Moog, cre8audio, Datapoint and Doepfer modules, each adding its own flavour of instability, warmth, and controlled chaos. A revised version of this track is due for release in 2027 There has always been a darker side to This Window ’s music, perhaps influenced by its association with the Goth scene and being in a support band for Bauhaus . The Dark Ages The track is a nostalgic look back to the old days—some of them good, and quite a few of them best forgotten. Alongside the modular synth sat the Panasonic SX‑KC600, a humble keyboard/synth that had been dragged out of retirement. Despite its budget‑friendly origins, the SX‑KC600 still de...

Limited Edition Sampler CD — Finish The Story & This Window — Only £5.00 Factory‑Pressed CD — Not a CDr • Limited Edition of 50 Available on eBay This scarce sampler CD brings together archive material from Finish The Story (FTS) and This Window , two projects rooted in the UK’s early 1980s post‑punk and cassette‑culture underground. Finish The Story formed in Evesham in 1981 and quickly became known for their intense, unpredictable live shows. Their debut performance at The Phoenix Club, supporting The Dancing Did, was reviewed in ZigZag magazine: “Finish the Story’s debut gig was better than the second coming of Jesus Christ.” Despite only a handful of gigs, FTS headlined in cities like London, Birmingham, Bristol and Exeter, and supported The Cure at Hammersmith Odeon . Their first official release appeared on Gunfire and Pianos (SITU 17), alongside Psychic TV, Jazz Butcher and All About Eve. A version of this release, Like ...

Free Download Albums from This Window Hopeless 1989 – 2026 is a free five-track digital compilation from This Window, offering an accessible introduction to the UK-based project’s distinctive world of experimental electronics, darkwave, synthwave, and cassette-inspired sound. Download For Free Spanning recordings made between 1989 and 2026, the release brings together early analogue experiments, tape-based fragments, and newer digitally produced material. Tracks such as “Sweet Charity,” “I Shimmer,” “Between Two Waves,” “Gone Are the Days of You and I,” and “Morning” reveal a project shaped by shifting technologies and decades of creative exploration. Rather than presenting itself as a conventional greatest-hits collection, Hopeless 1989 – 2026 works as a sonic cross-section of This Window: part archive, part sketchbook, and part contemporary statement. The contrast between tape hiss, saturation, atmospheric textures, and cleaner digital production gives t...

The Pitfalls of Building a Modular Synth

Image
Snake Oil? Modular synthesis promises freedom, but it also hides a minefield of inflated pricing, brand-driven hype, and unnecessary premium modules. Morgue Studio in Devon—home of This Window— has spent decades navigating those traps, choosing a hybrid path that blends affordable modern Eurorack with rugged CV/Gate machines from the 1980s. Brand Tax and Overpriced Utilities One of the biggest problems in modular synthesis is the extortionate pricing some companies attach to simple utilities. A module that does nothing more than split a signal, invert a CV, or provide a basic mixer can cost several times more than an equivalent unit from a smaller manufacturer. This isn’t about quality; it’s about branding. Many boutique makers charge premium prices for modules that are functionally identical to cheaper alternatives. The Illusion of Exclusivity Some manufacturers cultivate exclusivity through limited runs, artist panels, or modules marketed as essenti...

Ein Track aus „This Is War“

Image
„This Is Not The Way It Should Be“ — Eine langsam brennende Klage mit Reggae‑Puls „This Is Not the Way It Should Be“ ist um eine warme, reggae‑gefärbte Basslinie gebaut, gespielt von Peter Bright.

Lay Back This Is War

Image
Review: “This Is War” – This Window  This Is War distils the tension between love and hate into a stark, two‑minute confrontation. Relationships fracture when dreams diverge, and the song captures that moment when compromise becomes impossible. It’s emotional conflict rendered with the brevity of a warning shot. Written...

A Lifetime on a Cross

Download Here  There has always been a darker undercurrent running through This Window’s music, shaped partly by its early association with the Goth and post-punk scenes — including time as support act for Bauhaus , whose shadowy theatricality left a lasting imprint. Tracks like Where Is My Jesus show how that influence persisted: devotional unease, a sense of spiritual dislocation wrapped in cold, minimal structures. Morgue Studio amplifies that atmosphere. Its analogue machines introduce grit and instability, its digital tools stretch voices into spectral shapes, and its modular systems generate pulses that feel more like heartbeat and ritual than rhythm. The result is a sound that is unmistakably This Window — intimate, unsettling, and carved from both circuitry and memory. “ Where Is My Jesus? ” by This Window is a haunting, experimental track recorded in 2008 at Morgue Studio. The song is known for its stark, minimalist instrumentation and emotionally raw...
